Sunday Night Update May 21, 2006
Sunday Night Update is a rambling, confused, off the wall column that I send to friends and others who probably aren't offended enough to sue me. It's too long to pblish here, but once in a while I'll give you a sampling. This one come from the most recent SNU. That's pronounced SNU. It rhymes with stew, and is spelled like GNU without the G, but you knew that didn't you. Here it is
IMMIGRATION. Immigration is a hot button political issue right now and I don’t deal with political controversies in the update. However, if we really do want to stop illegal immigration, I know how to end it rather quickly. They’ve talked of building a high fence along the border. So far, so good, but don’t stop there. Grease the fences with Vaseline. They’ll never get over them. Honestly, I don’t own any stock in Vaseline.
Worrying About the Wrong Things
Psalm 92:10-12
10 Let those who love the LORD hate evil,
for he guards the lives of his faithful ones
and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11 Light is shed upon the righteous
and joy on the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the LORD, you who are righteous,
and praise his holy name.
Faithfulness to God is our objective. God guards us and protects us. We worry about the wrong things. We worry about the condition of the church as if we had any power to control it. We worry about our health. To the extent that we have been granted the skills of those in the healing profession we should use them, but in the end we’ll lose the battle with health. “What is your life, it is but a vapor?” We worry about money. We’ll also give that up some day even though it is a useful tool in the here and now. We worry about international affairs, but all of them are subject to the mighty hand of God. We can live with joy because God delivers the righteous from the hand of the wicked.
Welcome to my new blog
My name is Norman Bales. I'm an old guy. I remember houses without electricity, gasoline that sold for less than 3o cents a gallon, and hot weather without airconditioning. I'm trying to keep up with the changing world of the third millennium. This blog is my latest attempt to adjust to change.
I'll write about stuff that happens to me in old age. Hopefully some of it will be funny. Sometimes I'll talk about weird things going on in my life. I'll post serious thoughts about the Bible, and ideas about the Christian faith that run through my mind.
I've got a serious website called All About Families if you want to check it out.
We've posted about ten years worth of articles about families on that site.
I hope you'll check in with me again pretty soon.
Grace and Peace,
Norman
